Elie Saab and H&M's New Distribution
An analysis of the Elie Saab and H&M collaboration and what it means for the fashion business.
H&M's 22nd collaboration, chosen by a master of Paris haute couture, and the return of Loud Luxury
On September 3, 2026, H&M officially announced its new designer partnership. The name at its center is Lebanese haute couture master Elie Saab. The collection officially launches on October 22 in select H&M stores and on the brand's online store.
His haute couture gowns, which have dominated award shows and red carpets for global celebrities such as Kate Winslet, Céline Dion, Jennifer Lopez, and Catherine, Princess of Wales, typically carry five-figure price tags. Now, Elie Saab's designs are available starting at €29.99.

From Beirut to Paris Haute Couture
Elie Saab, which began in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1982, is the house of a master who became the first Arab designer to join the official Paris haute couture calendar and has held his place there for more than 20 years.
Over the years, Elie Saab has served as a singular milestone in the process of non-Western fashion entering the Paris luxury establishment. The signature glamour created by extreme opulence, intricate embroidery, and gradient sequins remains a symbol of red carpets around the world.

"I Turned It Down for Years, but Now Is the Right Time"
Elie Saab had received countless collaboration offers from SPA and mass brands over the years, turning them all down. The reason he chose H&M in 2026 was the company's clear philosophy.
"H&M has a remarkable track record of perfectly translating a luxury house's vision and DNA into a collaboration without compromising it. Having confirmed that we were in 'good hands,' I finally felt the time had come."
H&M creative advisor Ann-Sofie Johansson also emphasized that they did not compromise on the density or polish of the design, saying, "Our customers want the real Elie Saab, not an 'inferior version' of Elie Saab."

Collection Lineup and Price Architecture
Prices for this collection range from €29.99 to €399.
- Entry level (€29.99–€79): Accessible accessories and easywear, such as a flower choker (€29.99) and an embellished hoodie (€79).
- Statement pieces (up to €300): Elie Saab's signature dress codes, such as a gold-and-black sequin blazer and a flowing emerald-and-black bustier gown.
- Top-tier item (€399): An intricately crafted chocolate-and-black lambskin jacket.
- First menswear debut: It became the stage where Elie Saab presents a menswear collection for the first time, some 40 years after launching the brand.

The Return of "Loud Luxury" and Perfect Timing
This collaboration lines up precisely with the moment when fashion's direction in 2025–2026 is shifting from refined minimalism (Quiet Luxury) to "Loud Luxury," which emphasizes visual opulence and narrative.
The "Victoria's Secret LA Fashion Show," scheduled for October 18, and the October 22 launch of "Elie Saab × H&M" are just four days apart. The collection hits the market at the moment when demand for parties, partywear, sequins, and dramatic dress codes is at its highest.

Securing Category Expansion and Scarcity at the Same Time
This collaboration goes beyond simply democratizing couture; it's the result of clear business calculations on both sides. Elie Saab introduced the first menswear in the brand's history, along with easywear such as hoodies, using H&M's global distribution network as a springboard to test the market potential of new categories without the risks of launching them in its main line.
At the same time, while offering an accessible starting price of €29.99, it carefully combined a "selective distribution strategy," limiting distribution to "select flagship stores" rather than all stores, to prevent any erosion of the high-end house's brand scarcity.
