Miu Miu and New Balance: A Five-Year Collaboration Formula

How the collaboration's silhouettes have evolved, from the 574 to the RC150.

Miu Miu and New Balance: A Five-Year Collaboration Formula

The RC150, the latest collaboration sneaker from Miu Miu and New Balance, was unveiled at Paris Fashion Week in October 2026. It's a new silhouette based on a 1990s racing model.

Its key features are a light 150g weight, a slim and flat shape, zigzag stitching, and double laces around the toe box. Offered in blue/white, red/white, blue/yellow, and brown, it is set for release in February 2027.

With a new model now on the scene, it's worth looking back at the two brands' collaboration from the beginning, starting in 2021.

A Collaboration That Began with the 574

The two brands' collaboration first appeared at Paris Fashion Week in 2021.

Miu Miu chose New Balance's signature running shoe, the 574, and added deconstructed details. Placing both brands' logos together and applying white, khaki, and blue colorways, it reinterpreted the 574 into something different from the original.

Versions based on the 574 with different colors and materials followed. Rather than repeating a single model, the approach created a different image each season within the same archive.

Online, the pairing even earned the nickname "Miu Balance," a blend of Miu Miu and New Balance, as the combination itself became established as a collaboration identity.

The 530 SL, from Sneakers to Mules and Ballerinas

From 2024, the collaboration's silhouette changed.

Miu Miu introduced the 530 SL, a new interpretation of the New Balance 530, originally released in 1992. Stripping away the functional image of the original running shoe, it applied an ultra-flat sole and a thin construction, transforming it into a more minimal shape.

The 530 SL didn't stop at sneakers. Alongside versions in leather and suede, it expanded its form into mules and ballerinas.

In particular, the mule added an open-back construction to the 530 SL's sporty silhouette, while the ballerina reinterpreted the running shoe's form through the language of the ballet flat. A single archive model carried over into different ways of wearing and different styles.

In 2026, the 530 SL also appeared in the on-court wardrobe created with tennis player Coco Gauff. It's a case of a product that started as a fashion collaboration expanding its reach all the way to the actual sports arena.

And Now the RC150, a New Archive

The RC150, unveiled for SS27, shifts the direction of the collaboration once again.

If the 574 was about deconstructing a classic running shoe, the 530 SL moved toward a flat silhouette and a ballet mood. The RC150 brings in a lighter, sleeker sporting language based on a 1990s racing model.

Its core elements are a light 150g weight, a low sole, zigzag stitching, and double laces. The approach of adding Miu Miu's signature details to New Balance's existing archive carries on as well.

The model has changed, but the collaboration's structure of reinterpreting New Balance's archive through Miu Miu's lens continues.

Making One Collaboration New, Again and Again

What's notable about the Miu Miu and New Balance collaboration is that, while keeping the same pairing, it has created a different product language each time. With the 574, it deconstructed a classic running shoe; with the 530 SL, it expanded its forms to mules and ballerinas centered on a flat silhouette. Through the collaboration with Coco Gauff, it extended its reach to the sports arena, and with the RC150, it has once again pulled out a racing archive.

It's an approach that keeps the collaboration pairing intact while continually changing silhouettes, categories, and wearing occasions.

💡 EDITORIAL SMALL TALK

Rather than repeating a single hit product, the Miu Miu and New Balance collaboration continues by drawing on New Balance's archive in new ways.

In particular, just as the 530 SL expanded from sneakers to mules and ballerinas, the approach of unfolding a single silhouette across multiple categories and wearing occasions is worth referencing when planning a long-term collaboration.

Now that the RC150 has opened a new chapter, it will be worth watching what forms and categories this racing silhouette carries into next.
