Office Fashion, Ever-Shifting

Past the Office Siren and into the era of Corporate Cozy, all the way to the 2026 Workleisure trend.

Office Fashion, Ever-Shifting

The suit has run its course, and the jogger pants crossed the line. Swept first by the pandemic and then by RTO (return to office), the office of 2026 has thrown out both of these outdated dress codes. The stuffiness of extreme formality and the sloppiness of lazy casual have both evaporated, leaving a perfect vacuum. Squeezing right into that gap, an entirely new set of workwear rules is being written, one that will dominate the global retail scene.

"Workleisure," "Corporate Cozy," "smart casual." It goes by many names, but the essence is one.

"Bring the ultimate comfort you wore at home into the office, but elevate it into professional fashion."

With hybrid work and the rise of Gen Z converging, officewear is turning into the largest testbed for luxury material innovation. We look at how RTO (Return To Office) is rewriting the grammar of fashion.

From Attention-Seeking to Ease

Over the past two years, the narrative of office fashion has shifted dramatically.

Office Siren (2024–2025)
Bodycon silhouettes, corsets, sheer layering: the so-called "Office Siren" dominated social media. True to the word "siren," it was a deliberately attention-grabbing way of dressing, "dressing to be seen."

Corporate Cozy (2026)
This is the current rule, made official by the fashion outlet Who What Wear. Knit blazers, relaxed trousers, and soft-shell outerwear replace the suit. It doesn't strain to get attention, yet the wearer radiates a comfortable, cool confidence of their own.

Sexy Librarian
The third chapter, named by Vogue Scandinavia. Fitted cardigans, pencil skirts, and reading glasses used as a fashion accessory. It's the "Literary Fashion" sparked by Miu Miu and Balenciaga, elegantly combined with office codes.

The direction these three movements all point to is clear. "Look like you didn't try at all, yet feel perfectly put together."

The Game Changer

The most practical reason suit-centered business casual collapsed was "upkeep." Dry cleaning bills every two weeks and the hassle of ironing became an unjustifiable waste for post-pandemic consumers.

This is where "performance fabric" takes over the office. High-tech materials that hold their shape even after 50 machine washes (ISO certified) and don't wrinkle have met the grammar of luxury houses. Louis Vuitton (LV Silk Tech), which blended 51% silk with recycled nylon to create "washable silk," and Agolde's lyocell, which keeps an elegant drape while being machine washable, are leading examples. Right now, the fastest and largest consumer of luxury material innovation is none other than "the office."

A Powerful "Fashion Discovery" Channel

Just as NBA players' "tunnel walks" on the way to games became a massive showcase for menswear, the office, freed from strict dress codes, has become a huge runway in its own right.

Consumers no longer blindly trust Instagram algorithms or influencer ads. The "real way" of the coworker they see every day has become the most powerful and trustworthy fashion influencer. This is called "Slower Advertising" or the "intentional wardrobe."

Who Will Own This Market

Zegna
"Zegna X" clienteling, combined with Microsoft's AI. By customizing washable performance fabric suits with AI, it boosted profits by as much as 20%. The complete fusion of tailoring and technology.

COS
With a single $125 draped satin shirt, it captured office workers and drove search volume up 147%. A win for "tactile minimalism" that can be worn both at home and at work.

Aritzia
The "Effortless Pant," the hit that powered the brand's explosive growth. True to its name, it has become an office uniform you can wear without a second thought, from lunch meetings to your desk.

Toteme
This coming August, the brand launches menswear after bringing on former Celine menswear head Alexander Häggblad. With rich textures and graphic silhouettes, it's set to offer men a new alternative in "quiet office tailoring."

The Retail Buyer's Angle

These are the buying angles multi-brand store buyers need to set up to respond to the most common question of 2026: "Can I wear this to the office?"

"Material" Is a Powerful Sales Script
"No need to dry clean. Just throw it in the washing machine."

The Era of "Separates"
For hybrid workers whose dress code changes every day, "a single matching suit" holds little appeal.

Basic Pieces + "Abundant Accessories"
The new formula for office fashion is "keep the clothes as simple and comfortable as possible, and make the statement with weighty accessories."

💡EDITORIAL SMALL TALK

The Home of the "Sexy Librarian"
Where did the witty term "Sexy Librarian," used to describe officewear's new trend, first come from? None other than Vogue Scandinavia, the pinnacle of Nordic sensibility. It's no coincidence that brands with a Scandinavian sensibility, such as Toteme, Róhe, and Almada Label, are leading today's office trend so well. The Nordics, adept at handling calm yet intellectual textures, are serving as the true source of the global office fashion language in 2026.
